Traveling in Morocco

Morocco was intriguing. I found it to be very diverse in cultural influences. Coming from a very industrialized western culture, it seemed to me that Morocco was somewhat lost in transition from a traditional conservative and reserved culture to more of a consumer based market economy similar to North America's. As we travelled across the country, western influence became less noticeable, although Coca-Cola maintained its presence even reaching as far as the Sahara desert.

Moroccan people seemed to be unsettlingly friendly at first; at least until we figured out that everyone was trying to sell you something. This kind of direct sales tactic was difficult to manage. It was similar to home, except instead of logos and advertising everywhere it was people talking and bartering anything that wasn't tied down. Despite all of the chaos on the streets I found myself comfortable in the calamity of it all.

My favourite experience in Morocco wasn't the souks, rich culture or even riding camels, it was finding the perfect spot amongst the majestic dunes and watching fantastic quantities of shooting stars. Having time to relax and reflect in such an amazing environment definitely made the long bus ride worthwhile.
