Update - Dominican Republic

¡Hola! Hello from the Dominican Republic! The students enjoyed a day of shore leave in the city of Samana before packing up for a four-day stay in the beach town of Las Terrenas. En route to Las Terrenas we went for a beautiful hike through the forest to a series of waterfalls and upon arrival the students participated in beach volleyball followed by merengue and bachata dance lessons. After a sunset dinner overlooking the ocean the families began to arrive and the students departed with their homestay hosts. Thanks to the thoughtful organization of La Fundacion Mahatma Gandhi the Class Afloat crew spent the next three days in Las Terrenas participating in Carnival, pouring cement to rebuild playgrounds in barrios all over the town, and painting the houses of local families. From making masks to participate in the Carnival parade to watching children at play on the new hopscotch at their neighborhood playground, our time in the Dominican has been truly inspiring.
